Biomedical Engineering is a new subject which combines engineering, medicine and human biology. However, this broad field has caused various kinds of ethic issues.

Today, I want to talk about the relationship between Biomedical Engineering and life. With thousands of years of human society, a kind of people appears—physician. A physician is a professional who practices medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments. Briefly speaking, these people help other to solve problem related to their bodies both physically and mentally. People’s average life span has become longer and longer with the help of modern science. Nowadays, doctors are able to cure disease which people were at a loss what to do hundreds of years ago. As far as I am concerned, biomedical is just a kind of medical developed at a higher level. However, it seems that some people want to hold the development of biomedical. 

As the old saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way, and biomedical is the way people find to meet the will of living a better life. Biomedical is always related to ethic issue by ignorant people with the imagination of evil experiments or ulterior motives that cannot bear the light of day. Why don’t they stand out to say that knife can be used to murder others and we have to forbidden the usage of knife? Not only coins, everything has two sides or even more. It only depends on how we use the stuff. Actually, the truth is that biomedical engineers have already lengthened the life span of humans. Those who are thinking about this kind of problem are just making a mountain out of a molehill. They have already taken advantage from biomedical, how can they stand out again to talk about this? By the way, who can say that a longer life is not a kind of higher quality life? Those who don’t value a longer life can refuse the treatment but they don’t have the right to block others’ willing of living a better life.

All in all, I have one suggestion, engineers who work on biomedical can claim that they are not attempting to lengthen the life span of human beings; all they want is improving the quality of human’s life. Maybe the ignorant and the selfish only need an excuse to comfort themselves to enjoy the conveniences given by biomedical.
