Journal 2

With the expertise in medicine and engineering high speed development, many diseases become curable due to the emerging of biomedical engineering, while, as the same time, it becomes controversial in terms of general ethics in the fields of engineering, bioethics and medical ethics.

People have different views about whether biomedical engineers should attempt to lengthen the life span or focus on improving human’s quality of life. Personally, I think they should put emphasis on the latter instead of always concentrating on life span. When it comes to lengthening life span, I couldn’t up thinking that society is overloaded as population become more and more until beyond the earth’s volume. In the meanwhile, it is doubtless that young people have to bear increasing burden due to more and more elderly people to support. What’s worse, there will be few jobs for new generations which will threaten society security. On the other hand, we have to deplete limited natural resources to serve increasing population, as a result, was will explode all over the world to decrease the number of human. If so, living long is not means living better.

Instead, high life quality enables people get rid of anxiety and stress having a positive attitude towards life. There are still many incurable diseases, and people will get panic if they are confronted with. If biomedical engineering technology is devoted to creative methods of incurable diseases, people will be committed to job and family, which will help to build a harmony and prosperous society. In fact, life span will become longer if people is satisfied with life and appreciate life without disease concerns.

  1. Actually, there is no difference between lengthening life span of human beings and improving the quality of life by using biomedical. These are just two sayings for the same thing. As is mentioned in the journal above, higher life quality also leads to a longer life span.

  2. Yeah, I think that it's better to improve our quality of life by biomedical engineering. If we enhance our life span by this technology, it will cause much unexpected results to our body. On the other side, one hundred years of life is enough to us.
