The article introduces what is the biomedical engineering. It is a new filed in scientific research. It combines expertise in engineering with expertise and human biology to develop technologies and techniques for healthcare and patient care.
I think the biomedical engineers shouldn’t attempt to enhance the human body. If you use this technology to improve your body and change your cell, it will cause unexpected result. Our body was build by billions of cells. If we just change our life by biomedical technology, our body may not fit to this change. On the other side, if our body could fit this huge change, we still don’t know what will happen to our body many years later. So I think biomedical engineers should focus on improving humans’ quality of life. In our short life, if this technology could bring benefit to us, we could have more time to enjoy our life. For disable people, biomedical engineers could design prostheses for them. It’ll help disable people to enjoy their life.
When prostheses have been developed, there will be some confusion about the person with prothetic. I think that a person with a prosthetic body part should be considered fully human. The prostheses are only used for helping disable person. It will not affect the identity of the individual. We shouldn’t discriminate them. However, if they have prosthetics in their brain, I’m afraid it will affect human’s individual. So I think there should be a limit to how many prosthetic items a person can have. Once people have prosthetics in their brain, I think they can’t responsible for all of their actions. For biomedical engineering, there are still many things should be discussed.

ReplyDeleteToo many if clauses, hahaha! maybe subjunctve clause is helpful. Actually, in my opinion, it is people who can think independently and is in charge of his or her boby. Ethics confict is inevitable when new technology emerges in terms of unpredictacle tendency of unknown world. While from its birth to now, people benefit from this kind of technology.
